Rockhurst High School has installed a new Bar Code Scanning system in our school’s cafeteria this year. The new system is provided by ITC, which has served many schools and businesses in the Midwest with great success.
The Card Scan system works much like a bank’s debit card, allowing only what is funded in your son’s account to be used. Full lunches are $5 and your son can still purchase a la carte items from the cafeteria, however candy/snacks are still cash only.
You can put as much as you want on the card at any time and there are several ways to credit your son’s balance.
- The online form has several dollar increments to choose from including the entire third quarter, entire fourth quarter, or both. The online form requires 24 hours to process the transaction so please plan accordingly when refreshing a balance. Press the "Purchase Tickets" button above to access this form.
- The automated charge-up machine (ACM) that will accept cash and can be used before, during or after school and provides a real-time update of the account and a receipt of the transaction. Students can also check their balance at the ACM to verify funds.
- The volunteer staff will also be on hand to accept cash or checks during the lunch periods. If you do wish to use a check please note that it will take 10 days for the check to clear, process the transaction, and make funds available in your son’s account. As with the ACM, cash transactions handled by the volunteer staff are updated in real-time and available immediately.
Listed below is the number of lunches that will be served during the remaining quarters. This may help you determine how much you would like to put on the card using the online form.
- First Quarter: Information Coming soon!
- Second Quarter: Information Coming soon!
- Third Quarter – Information Coming soon!
- Fourth Quarter– Information Coming soon!
These totals do not include extras or vending machines/snacks. Your card can still be used for extras provided by the cafeteria, but not for items at the snack cart. The snack cart and vending machines are not set up for the Card Scan system at this point, but they will still accept cash.
For Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors, any remaining balance will be carried over to the next year. A graduating Senior may request a refund of any remaining balance from the Rockhurst High School Business Office. Refunds for Seniors will be processed once their account with Rockhurst has been fully reconciled.
We hope this new system will provide a more efficient process in the cafeteria during lunch period. We would encourage, during the first couple of weeks of this implementation, if it is absolutely necessary for your son to eat without delay, that he bring his lunch. We do expect a learning curve for both the boys and the volunteers manning the registers.

FAQ
Q. How soon is my son’s balance available if I use the online form to fund his account?
A. We ask that you give us 24 hours to update your son’s balance in the Card Scan system. If your son requires a balance that is updated immediately, please provide cash for him to use the automated charge-up machine located in the cafeteria.
Q. Will we be notified if our son’s balance is below a certain amount?
A. You will NOT be automatically updated if your son’s balance is below a certain amount.
Q. How can I check my son’s balance?
A. Each transaction provides a receipt and the remaining balance is included on that receipt. Your son may also check his balance at the ACM in the cafeteria. A detailed report of spending may be requested but requires 24 hours to process and will need to be sent to the official email listed in the school’s database system.
Q. What if my son still has lunches left on his paper lunch ticket?
A. We will still accept paper lunch tickets until all purchased lunches have been used. Your son may also have the remainder of lunches on his paper ticket transferred to his digital account, but we will not be offering this service until the third week of the semester to allow for the transition to the new system. |
